Joanne Gumaer,
PMP is President of IlliniaQ Inc, a project
management, consulting and training firm since 1995. During this time she
has facilitated the planning and development of project plans for
NORTEL, The Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, and The Ontario
Ministry of Correctional Services,
Lichtman's Books, Sun Life, and William M. Mercer Ltd.
She has developed and delivered project management courses addressing
topics ranging from fundamental tools and techniques to advanced topics
in time, cost scheduling and multiple project management.
Her training
experiences ranges from seminars with group exercises, to hands-on MS
Project courses to tailored in house training. She has led these
sessions across Canada and the United States for NORTEL, Penske Logistics,
Ministry of Solicitor General and Correctional Services, and Bell
ActiMedia.
In addition to her training and consulting
business, she is an active member of
Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Ontario Society of Training
and Development (OSTD).
Her volunteer work includes serving as VP of Projects for the PMI
Southern Ontario Chapter and Education and Training SIG technical track
chair for the 2000 and 2001 PMI Symposium.
Joanne Gumaer holds a Masters in Recreation Management from
Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Mathematics and Education from
Houghton College. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from PMI and a Certified
Microsoft Project Product Specialist. Joanne Gumaer has presented a
paper at the PMI Symposium in 1999 and publishes articles for Project
Times.
Recent Experience Nortel 1994 - 1995
Financial Services Excellence (FSE) Project:
Mission - The Company will reduce workflow and improve services for its
financial services globally. Each project manager will manage one of
three categories of projects: software development, customizing packaged
software or consolidating and migrating existing data to new systems.
Goal: All project managers will use Microsoft Project for
tracking their project progress.
Service: Template project plans and reports developed for
each of the three types of Projects. All project managers receive
training in Microsoft Project combining instruction in project
management theory with templates and reports developed. Nortel 1995
- 1996
Product Development Project: Mission - to design, develop
and implement a product to meet regulatory features impacting various
communication products.
Goal: Monitor and control the project to ensure that there
are no forgotten tasks, to identify bottlenecks early and to
communicate project data effectively.
Service: Worked with project team members over an
intensive ten-day period to train in formal project management theory
and to develop the draft of their project plan. Ministry of
Solicitor General and Correctional Services, 1996 - 1999
Establish a Project Management Office: there are from 80 -
120 project in progress at any given time. There is a need to ensure
that all the projects are managed in a comprehensive, effective and
efficient manner.
Goal: Design and implement an integrated project information and control
system, which manages the progress of all the projects, coordinated by
the Change Management Coordinator.
Service: Set up a Project Management Office by designing standard
project methodologies and templates. Provided training and support for
the Project Office team, Project Managers and team members. Ministry
of Solicitor General and Correctional Services, 1998 - 1999
Justice Y2000 Tracking Project - There is a need to develop a
system for gathering, organizing and distributing the schedule status of
over 300 Y2K projects to Senior Management and Management Board
Secretariat.
Goal: To develop a project tracking system that reports
the schedule status and variance of each Y2K project, by project phase
within each of the 43 business units to Senior Management and Management
Board Secretariat.
Service: Implemented a project tracking process by designing
and developing templates and then providing training and support for the
project managers and project administrators. Additional Project
Management and Training
Project Manager: Nine years of experience in the
management of numerous training projects. Analyzed users' skills,
designed, planned, implemented and evaluated software-training programs
resulting in increased user productivity.
Training: Comprehensive courses taught in Project
Management, that covered the skills and concepts for effectively
managing projects. Courses offered from the Introductory through Advance
levels. The courses include the appropriate project management body of
knowledge for the specific software skills. Some companies that have
received courses are Ontario Ministry of Correctional Services, Sun Life, Nortel,
Tele-Direct, and William Mercer Limited.
